This is a Taznakht, one of the Moroccan beautiful classic rug design.
It comes from the region of Taznakht, not far from Ouarzazate, in the High Atlas where saffron is grown...
Look at these shades ! I love these peach and coral tones and the contrast of the deep brown... and this pale saffron yellow... It is a beauty !
This refined rug is of very good quality, pure wool, you may also notice the fine brown bangs. (Unlike recent rugs made for the market that are woven on a cotton base).
The rugs from this region are characterized by the quality of their wool, the brightness of their colors and their relatively small size.
The wool is worked for a long time (carding and spinning) to obtain a silky strand, almost like a velvet texture.
The type of weaving is called Glaoui, name of a Berber tribe from the village named Telouet.
The design alternates 3 types of weaving: flat (like a Kilim), the knotted stitch and the "chedwi" (which is embroidered) all in a window organization.
Dimensions : 6.9 x 4.4 feet (210 x 135 cm)
